Gwen Stefani Gwen Stefani was born on October 3, 1969, in Orange County, California. She has two brothers Todd and Eric. Her singing style is much influenced from the growing music trends of ska and punk. In 1987 Gwen's brother Eric and his friend Spence began to play in a band called No Doubt. Eric asked his sister to join them in the band as a singer. Another singer, Tony Kanal, joined No Doubt shortly thereafter. The band broke up in 1987 when Spence committed suicide. Then Gwen became No Doubt's lead singer. Around that time she finished high school and was admitted to the Cal State Fullerton College. Even though she had a rough time combining music and studies, Gwen didn't quit the band. She dated No Doubt's member Tony Kanal for seven years. In 1989 two new members joined the band the guitarist Tom Dumont and the drummer Adrian Young. With their unique way of performing No Doubt became a very attractive band. The Red Hot Chili Peppers' bassist Flea recorded with them a demo in 1990, which eventually led No Doubt to signing a contract with the Interscope Records. In 1992 their self-titled debut album came out. Although the band's managers lost faith with No Doubt, the band's enthusiasm didn't disappear. In 1995 they released a self-produced album, which contained all their college hits. The album attracted the attention not only of their fans but of the Interscope Records as well. With their record company's assistance No Doubt recorded and released the album Tragic Kingdom, which turned out to be very successful. Then Eric Stefani quit the band and started working as an animator of the cartoon The Simpsons. The band managed to top the charts with the single "Just A Girl" in 1995 but their biggest success came with the song "Don't Speak". The album Tragic Kingdom won two Grammy nominations in the best group category. In 2000 No Doubt released the hits "Ex-Girlfriend" and "Simple Kind of Life". As of now, Gwen is still with her boyfriend Gavin Rossdale, a singer with the band Bush, whom she has been dating for 5 years now.
