Born 34 years ago in Washington, D.C., Dave begins playing
comedy clubs at the
age of 14, while taking his acting lessons at the Duke Ellington School of
the Arts. His makings are noticed and he even gets the chance to perform at
the world-renowned Apollo Theater in Harlem, New York. Daves affinity to
acting grows at a great rate and he becomes a real hit at clubs along the
East Coast, taking part chiefly in socially-sensitive sets. He is so
energetic in his devotion to acting that at the age of 20 he already scores
appearances on HBO (Russell Simmens' Def Comedy Jam) and in Whoopi Goldbergs
Comic Relief VI.
It does not take long for Dave to hit the screen as well. Among his most
notable roles are
his parts in Robin Hood: Men in Tights, The Nutty Professor, Con Air, Blue
Streak, Half Baked. The latter role he makes turns the film into a cult one.
Chappelles rise to stardom lets him start his own weekly television show
Chappelles Show on Comedy Central. The show features his original type of
sketch comedy where he focuses on presenting racial stereotypes and slurs.
His program turns into one of the best rated shows on the cable tv screen
and is only preceded by South Park on Comedy Central. The immense popularity
of the show leads Comedy Central's parent company Viacom to a prolonged
agreement with Dave including the planning of other comedy shows.

first TV interview after escaping from his $50 million television deal. He
was one of the hottest comedians in the US when he vanished into thin air
all at once while filming the third season of the hit show. The comedian is
expected to explain to Oprah what actually happened and comment on the
rumours that he suffered a mental breakdown. January 2, 2006
