Laura Linney Laura Linney - the actress, came into the world on February 5th, 1964, in New York, New York. She is the daughter of playwright Romulus Linney and Ann Leggett Perse, a nurse. Her parents split when she is just 6 months old. Laura grows up in Manhattan�s Upper East Side. She takes the plunge in the acting career comparatively early, working as a stagehand at a New Hampshire summer theatre festival - being just 12 years old. She manages to graduate from the Brown University in 1986 with a degree in theatre, and take a program in drama at the Juilliard School in New York. In 1990, she gets a job in a stage production of Six Degrees of Separation. Naturally, she makes her Off-Broadway and Broadway debuts as well. Her first movie role is the one of a young teacher in Lorenzo�s Oil (1992), starring Nick Nolte. She is more memorable, however, in Dave (1993), although her role there is small. In 1994, Laura plays Mary Ann Singleton in the edgy PBS adaptation of Armistead Maupin�s Tales of the City. In 2001, she gets her next engagement, while keeping on to appear on the big screen in movies such as: A Simple Twist of Fate (1994), co-starring Steve Martin, as well as the adventure-thriller Congo (1995), which is a hit at the box office but a bust with critics. In 1997, Lora plays the ex-lover and courtroom opponent of star Richard Gere�s character in the thriller Primal Fear, in 1997 - the daughter of the great Clint Eastwood's character in Absolute Power. Advancing in the theatre field, she makes a great role in Sight Unseen in 1992. Another hit appearance of hers is the role in Great White Way in 1998, co-starring in Honour with Jane Alexander, and in 2000, playing opposite Derek Jacobi in Uncle Vanya. In 1998 she appears in a bigger role where she demonstrates her acting gift: The Truman Show. You Can Count on Me (2000) is the movie where Laura Linney invests all of herself. For this role, as well as for previous ones, she won raves, and numerous critics� awards, including an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress. After her success in You Can Count on Me, Linney shoots in The House of Mirth (2000), starring Gillian Anderson as the ill-fated woman who gets on Bertha�s bad side. She also conquers the small screen appearing in the TV movie Running Mates. Another role is the appearance in the pshycothriller The Mothman Prophecies (2001), a reunion project with her Primal Fear co-star Richard Gere. She marries Juilliard classmate and fellow actor - David Adkins in 1995. The couple separate in early 2000.
