Born Christopher Lloyd on April 30 twenty-four years ago in
Queens, New York, in the family of Puerto Rican mother and a father who
spends most of the time in prison due to shady street affairs, Banks is
raised in an atmosphere that makes him to grow to maturity earlier than his
coevals.
Inspired by the works of Big Daddy Kane and Slick Rick, he turns to words as
the best way to express his feeling trapped in the cycle of poverty and
violence. His passion for exploring the multilateral nature of his
personality makes him feel incompatible with the structured school
environment and he becomes a drop-out before turning 16. Banks spends quite
a while creating rhymes before revealing his style of poetry to the public.
The feedback from the street on his rhymes is so encouraging that Lloyd
teams up with the neighborhood producers and makes tracks for local
mixtapes. His good jod is rewarded when childhood friend Tony Yayo and
50 Cent approach him with the suggestion to form a group. This is how
G-Unit is born. The group offers innovative rhymes and memorable artwork
that conquers local clubs. Before long their first large-scale album Beg for
Mercy is released (2003) to reach the Top 20 on the Billboard 200 chart and
to be followed by a world tour. One year later Lloyd is ready to stand out
in the industry by himself that is proved by his debut album named The
Hunger for More (June, 2004). Tracks like "Play..boy" and "Southside Story"
drive clubbers crazy, while "When the Chips are Down" is more on the
romantic side. Even Eminem is impressed with Banks and produces the track
"Til the End." In private life Lloyd Banks is single and is actively in
search of the dream-girl.
