The Chinese cutie has just turned 30 and her career has already marked an astonishing pace of evolution. There is no way for us to have missed knowing something about Lucy Liu. She saw the light of the day on December 2nd, 1968 in the Italian neighbourhood of Queens, New York. Her parents, immigrants from China, raised her the American way. She comments on her life like this: You go through a period when you don't like being Asian; you want to be 'American'. In 1986, Lucy graduates from high school at Stuyvesant H.S., and goes to New York University, but there she stays a year only, because of realizing that the place is "dark and sarcastic".�hen she decides to move to the University of Michigan at Ann Arbour with a degree in Asian languages and cultures, where she studies meanwhile: acting, dancing and singing. Her career begins after appearing at an audition for Andre Gregory's adaptation of Alice in Wonderland, where she actually lands the lead role. Her success is partly due to her excellent Mandarin, and due to Kali-Eskrima-Silat. Obviously, her wealth of knowledge of foreign languages, as well as her fighting skills represent a small part of her gifts. She also takes part in theatre plays: Numb, Redwood Curtain and M. Butterfly. As an addition to her talents, the young Lucy is a talented painter as well: some of her works have been exposed in Cast Iron Gallery in SoHo in the early eighties. In 1993, she receives an art grant to study art in China. She showcases a mix of media photography, ceramics, paints, wood collages and papers on her chronicled experiences, in Venice, CA. However, this is not all. Liu is a dauntless athlete, as well, she practices: rock climbing, skiing and horseback riding. In result from all these vocations of hers, she keeps some unpleasant memories: falling from a horseback, and a bike. Lucy's multitude of talents is complemented by her elegant sense of music: she plays the accordion. Lucy's star touches the sky on September 21st 1998, on Fox's Ally Mcbeal in the Episode They Eat Horses Don't They. In the series she plays the role of the cold-blooded Ling Woo, an assertive plant manager (and ex-lawyer) suing a shock jock radio for sexual harassment.On November 19th, 1998 she gains great, actual popularity in an Ally McBeal episode. It's my party is the episode where she executed a deadly kiss with co-star Greg Germann.We could see her on the big screen partnering Mel Gibson in Payback where she plays a dominatrix pearl of the Chinese Mafia. Among her remarkable big screen appearances stand out: City of Industry, Tupac's Gridlock'd, and Jerry Maguire. She has also had roles on syndicated shows such as: Hercules: TJL, X-Files, Beverly Hills 90210, Nash Bridges,LA Law, Home Improvement, ER, NYPD Blues, and John Quest.
