Monica Bellucci was born on September 30th, 1968 in Citta di Castello, Umbria, Italy. Her first serious job is related to modeling as a means to pay for her education, while studying at the University of Perugia. The great deal of traveling and the appealing money earning, however, have a crucial impact on her decision to prefer modeling to study.
In 1988 Monica moves to Milan where she ranks among the first-class models. Despite her great accomplishment as a model, presenting Dolce & Gabbana and French Elle, Monica does not feel satisfied with her professional occupation. She rather manifests an increasing interest in the 7th art - cinema. Monica's growing devotion to the big screen is nourished by her initiative to take actorship lessons. Her efforts are rewarded in 1990 when she debuts in Vita coi figli and Briganti. Following are roles in La Riffa and her first American movie - Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992). The latter movie appearance of Monica turns out to be the turning point in her new career, provoking a "rain" of invitations for movie roles. Monica's participation in I Mitici (1994) is followed by roles in Palla di neve (1995) and Joseph made-for-TV movie.Her movie career's greatest driving force, however, is the L'Appartement (1996). For her role of Lisa Monica wins a Cesar nomination. There she co-stars her ex-husband Vincent Cassel, who she marries to in 1999.
In 1997 Monica takes part in Come mi vuoi, Dobermann and Mauvais genre, followed by roles in 1998's L'Ultimo capodanno, A los que aman, and Compromis. She also stars in 1999's Comme un poisson hors de l'eau. A year later Monica delights the American fans with her role in Under Suspicion. The same year she appears in the movie Malena (2000) that gets 14 awards, including a Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film.
In 2001 Bellucci takes part in Brotherhood of the Wolf and appears as Cleopatre in Asterix & Obelix: Mission Cleopatre 2002. The same year she accepts the memorable role in Irreversible. Monica does not disappoint the American public with her performance in Tears of the Sun in 2003, as well. |
